The Plan-EIS describes the environmental effects of the proposed construction of an augmentation wellfield that will deliver water to Rattlesnake Creek upstream of Quivira National Wildlife Refuge to provide long-term, sustainable agricultural water management within the Rattlesnake Creek subbasin of the District.
Continuing our region’s long-standing commitment to conservation, the District is preparing action plans for each area of concern identified by the board of directors. Your input is essential to ensure these plans address the priorities that matter most to our region.
The Water Transition Assistance Program (WTAP) is a voluntary, incentive-based program that helps Kansas landowners permanently retire irrigation water rights in targeted, high-priority areas. The Kansas Department of Agriculture has received a Bureau of Reclamation grant and is currently conducting a WTAP enrollment.
The objective of the Irrigation Technology Initiative (ITI) is to provide system assessments to help producers gain a better understanding of their water system’s efficiency. The ITI is available for any irrigator within the boundaries of the groundwater management districts. This project is funded in-part by the State of Kansas Water Plan Fund.
The District is spearheading a water quality initiative to gain a better understanding of the water quality in the aquifer. As a service to water users in Central Kansas, the District provides free water sampling and analysis for specific water constituents. The District supplies water bottles, instructions for proper sample collection, and analysis at no cost to the water user.
The CKWBA has the Savings Account that allows a portion of unused water to be preserved for future use at the same location. The CKWBA also has the Deposit & Lease program that allows the historical water use of a water right to be transferred to other areas within the region. Both programs have grown in popularity and give water users additional flexibility while helping conserve local water resources.
